Today was the first day of my Art and Paper course. I felt kinda silly because I got there early, and knocked on the door but no one answered, so I walked back to my room to call the professor to make sure the location hadn’t changed. I got back to the room, knocked again, and ended up just walking in because no one heard me knocking.
The class seems pretty interesting. We worked with little glass-like pages, with really pretty texture, and looked at some paper examples of what our future marbling paper projects would look like. I am really excited for this course, as it is completely different than any other art class I have ever taken. It is also nice that there are only about 6 students in the class. We are also taking a trip to Sussex the first weekend in December to visit an artist and see some of his work.
I will be starting life drawing next week and I am very excited for this as well. Life drawing in London- what a better place to learn than here! I found some information in a weekend pamphlet that may have some workshops as well that I will be looking into.
After class, I went back to my room to catch up on journaling, and had lunch with Cody. I went back to my room again to do more journaling (it seems like I am never going to be caught up. I write so much and so many details because I want to remember it all… and here I am writing about how I don’t have enough time to write… wow).
Thursday night is the infamous karaoke night at the bar in ISH so we started getting ready to head over there. Rachael and myself got there a little early and went upstairs to a lounge with a nice tv so that we could see a little bit of what was going on with the U.S. economy and the bailout on the BBC. It is incredible how the U.S. has such an impact on other nations, obviously Great Britain as well. I felt like I was in the U.S. with the breaking news coverage that they had.
We left a bit later to go to karaoke night, and watched some terrible singers in addition to the bad ones. Chad and Aurelia did a duet, and Chad has a pretty good voice. I guess he was a musical theatre major for a while, so that would make sense that he could sing on pitch. Later, Aurelia, Katie, Rachael, and Mike all sung a song together.
But the highlight of the evening was the incredible humorous performance by Shawn and the Dean, Kevin. Shawn went up and dedicated the song 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' to the dean (who spends every night in the bar socializing with all the young kids… cool that he wants to be so involved, but kinda weird, I dunno). After several minutes of a dramatic show, the dean went up and started playing along as well. By the end of the performance, they were holding hands, and the dean had kissed Shawn on the cheeks. It was hilarious, and I wish I would have taken a video. They really played it up.

How long are you in the UK? and how's your course going?
I'm based in the UK and have just started university I really miss my old friends and have moved into halls.
I'm missing my mom and dad and family too!
I had a great fresher's week and have joined some clubs so i can get to know people better, the best one is the Karaoke club. We arranged a whole evening in the student union and I got a customised karaoke disc with all my favourite songs on, i do a great "how do I live" by leann rimmes and when I get more drunk move onto whitney houston, I'm never sure how those sound though because by then I'm pretty drunk.
I've often thought about doing the X factor! So what did you sing at your Karaoke night?
